Chonburi private-school administrators donated more than 650,000
baht to Chaimongkol Temple which, in turn, planned to distribute
scholarships to Pattaya vocational students.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and Pornchai Pisarnsitkul, president of the
Chonburi Private School Directors Association, led the Aug. 15 “tod phapa”
ceremony at the South Pattaya temple.
In the ceremony, a robe was placed in front of monks, then a lay disciple
delivered an offering prayer before one of the monks designated by the
priests to receive the rob, accepted it.
The ceremony then ended with pouring of holy water to dedicate merit to the
deceased.
Money raised by participants totaled 658,733, which was donated to the
temple for its maintenance and expenses. Part of the money, however, will
make its way back to the community through donations to vocational schools
in Pattaya who will provide scholarships to poorer students.
