Police are looking for a boastful crooner who burned down a Jomtien Beach
karaoke joint after its owner spurned his romantic overtures.
Chim Watsati, 50, called police and fire fighters around 12:30 a.m. Aug. 18.
Officers arrived at Thepprasit Soi 17 to find the no-name club fully
engulfed. Constructed with a grass roof and with a petrol-filled motorbike
aflame as well, firemen were unable to control the blaze until it burned the
shack to the ground.
Sporting a black right eye, Chim told police that a man she knows only as
Apichart came into the bar, boasting that he was under the protection of a
senior police officers.
He flirted with the owner, who turned away his advances. In retaliation, he
smashed her in the face with a motorcycle helmet and hit her elsewhere
several times.
Chim said she quickly shut the shop and ran off, but Apichart was angry and
burned down her business, she claimed.
Fortunately, Chim was able to snap a photo of Apichart during one of his
karaoke-bar boast sessions. Armed with it, police hope to find the arsonist.
