Sour apples among soggy vegetable sellers

Vegetable dealer Pom Samretkij says trade at his Amornnakorn stall has been very slow.

Jetsada Homklin
Perhaps no one was happier to hear the Meteorological Department of Thailand declare Oct. 16 the end of rainy season than vendors in area markets, whose profits have been drenched by recent downpours.
Sellers at the Amornnakorn Market in Naklua, Wat Chaimongkol Market in South Pattaya and Mae Vilai Market in Central Pattaya Road, near Tops Supermarket, all bemoaned heavy rains spun off Cyclone Hudhud, which pounded India last week.
Vegetable dealer Pom Samretkij said trade at his Amornnakorn stall has been very slow. He normally makes 1,000-2,000 baht a day but recently has been taking in only 300-400 baht due to the weather.
Other reports included other shops, such as minimarts, butchers, seafood and even sweets are not doing any business, due to the lack of customers because of the weather.
Relief is at hand, however, as the Meteorological Department declared the rainy season over and the dry winter begun.
