Mother elephants keep a close eye on their calves
during the naming ceremony.
Patcharapol Panrak
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden added to its stable of elephants with the
birth of two more calves.
Sattahip District Chief Phawat Lertmukda helped introduce the two female
elephants born this month. Nine monks, led by Abbot Kasemkittisophon from Samak
Heebanphod temple, recited the Chaiyamongkol incantation, sprinkled holy water
and named the elephants Kaesorn and Mukhda.
Park director Kampol Thansajja said it has been a good year for elephant births.
The two calves were born by two cows that had not had offspring in a long time:
Wanphen, 27, and Phailin, 20. Both were mated with Plai Bird, 36.
Park staff and 40 elephants attended the naming ceremony. Kasemkittisophon
explained the names Kaesorn and Mukhda translated to, respectively, blue diamond
and white diamond.
