Commander receives heroic retirement sendoff Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, General Mongkol Ampornpisit was given a full military retirement sendoff at the Naval Airbase in Rayong. The Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, General Mongkol Ampornpisit was given a gallant retirement ceremony organized by the Commander of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Thira Haojaroen at the Naval Airbase in Rayong on August 30. General Mongkol Ampornpisit, who is retiring in October, was honored with a full-scale military assembly. Five battalions passed in review, followed by a parade of the Infantry, Armor, Anti-Aircraft, Transportation, Artillery, Marine Amphibious and Coastal Defense units. Naval warships and Air Force fighter jets also participated in the event, with aircraft passing overhead in tribute. General Mongkol commanded a number of infantry units during his career, with assignments in Vietnam, special missions suppressing communism in Thailand and other duties in Thai border areas. As Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces during the last four years of his career, the General played a vital role in supporting the Navy by pushing various programs to maintain the Navy’s readiness in defending the Kingdom. |
