Expression Francise
offers new dynamic and professional team
The Expression Francaise language center, which opened
its doors exactly one year ago and was managed during all this period by
Mr. Jose Merciecca, an experienced teacher of French as a Foreign
Language, has been taken over by a new dynamic and professional team. The
reception at the entrance and the office of the new manager have been
nicely redecorated in order to welcome the learners in a French convivial
atmosphere.
A conformable little lounge with a TV set programmed on
TV5 for the French learners or on CNN for the English learners is at their
disposal to let them know more about these two cultures. It is possible to
read some new French and English magazines to keep up-to-date on news,
economy, fashion, cinema, and music.
The 3 classrooms have been modernized. If they are more
attractive they stay anyway faithful to the tradition of the center which
is to welcome groups not exceeding 10 persons: the quality of the teaching
being the priority of the center. As is the quality of the teachers,
because only experienced teachers are enrolled to teach there.
The general courses are for all the public: kids,
pre-teens, teens and adults. The specific courses are for people who are
working in companies, hotels or restaurants.
The center provides the learners with a whole set of
knowledge tools, including multimedia, which will occupy an increasingly
more important place in the near future. It already provides for
individual tuition, a method of learning French assisted by computer for 3
levels (beginner/intermediate/advanced). So, for example, learning grammar
with a computer as a tool and a teacher as a tutor becomes a fun and
attractive activity.
The center offers its professionalism not only to
learners of French but to learners of English and of Thai too. Come and
see the center to learn more about it: you are all welcome 7 days a week
from 10 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
ISR Students get set to
“Dunk ‘em” at the Jesters Children’s Fair
Students at the International School of the Regents are
preparing to get wet at the Jesters Children’s Fair on September 16 at the
Amari Orchid Resort, and in doing so, raise money for the ‘Care 4 Kids’
Charity Drive. In fact, the students are hoping that as well as staff,
students and their Mums and Dads, many other people will volunteer to de
‘dunked’ and get wet for charity!
Head
of ISR, Mr Simon Leslie gets well and truly ‘dunked’ at the
International Day earlier in the year.
The “Dunk ‘em” machine was contrived by students
and staff and tried out with great success at the ISR International Day
earlier in the year. The ‘machine’ consists of a target and a
precariously balanced (full) bucket of water with a ‘victim’ sitting
directly underneath. 20 baht buys you 3 throws at the target - if you make
contact - splash! - down comes the water and whoever is sitting underneath
gets drenched!
If you would like to join the VIP ‘Dunk’ list and
ensure your place on the hot (wet!) seat underneath the bucket, please email
ISR at [email protected] Raincoats will be supplied but it might be a good
idea to bring along a change of clothes!

Staff football at GIS
becomes an institution in its own right
With Thursday Staff Football at Garden International
School becoming an institution for students and staff alike, the first
annual awards dinner was recently held at Nut’s Bar at Pala Beach.
Em
and Lara receive their awards
After a scrumptious buffet feast all of the students
received certificates from Coach Simon Less, the spiritual father of
football at the school, accompanied by ‘witty’ Barry Daniels as the
compere.
Highlights of the evening were the trophies for the
‘Most Improved player’ which went to Preedee Chieochanchokchai and
joint ‘Players of the Year’ Lara Weston-Indrasoot (a tenacious
full-back) and Em Tangtrakulwongse, and elegant left-footer who was also
voted “Players Player of the Year”.
As Simon and a number of key staff players leave this
year, the remaining staff have vowed to continue the tradition and again
put the ISR team to the sword in September (if they turn up!).
