The Royal Cliff Beach Resort wants to be sure its staff is as good at putting out fires as it is pampering guests at the 5-star hotel.
Pattaya’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and Hotel Fire Protection Section hosted the Royal Cliff’s annual two-day fire prevention seminar July 1-2 at the Jomtien Beach resort. More than 200 employees were trained how to prevent fires and handle fire-fighting equipment should one break out.
Training was done over two days, with Day 1 focusing on theory behind extinguishing fires, fire extinguisher maintenance, use of other equipment and care for fire victims.
The second day saw employees put their knowledge to use with hands-on demonstrations and simulations. Skills tests covered using fire extinguishers, hand signals to control water distribution and putting out cooking-gas leaks. The attendees were trained to not panic when facing a real situation.


Bangkok Airways holds anointment ceremony for new aircraft

Bangkok Airways last week held an aircraft anointment ceremony at Suvarnabhumi Airport for its recently delivered two A319s named “Si Satchanalai” and “Luang Prabang”.
The ceremony was presided over by Somdej Phra Buddhacharn, Abbot of Wat Saket Rajavoramahavihara, Executive Committee of His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch, Member of Sangha Supreme Council.
Also present at the ceremony were the airline’s CEO, Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth and president, Capt. Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth.
“Si Satchanalai” is an all economy aircraft with 144 seats, whilst “Luang Prabang” offers 12 business class seats and 108 economy class seats which will be available for the Bangkok-Samui, Bangkok-Hiroshima, Bangkok-Phnom Penh, Bangkok-Maldives, Samui-Singapore and Samui-Hong Kong routes.
 


Russia, India and Middle East named target markets for 2010 tourism

The Tourism Authority of Thailand will focus its 2010 marketing efforts on Russia, India and the Middle East as it tries to rebuild the city’s tourism industry.
During a June 26 brainstorming session with local bureaucrats, travel agents and tourist-related businesses, officials with TAT’s Pattaya office said those three regions offer the most potential visitors and will get the majority of the attention next year. However, China, South Korea, Vietnam and Japan will receive some advertising and promotions.
TAT Pattaya office director Niti Kongkrut said the 2010 marketing plan will consist of two parts. The first would include trade shows and travel marts in Russia, Dubai, United Arab Emirates and India, as well as other large travel events in Europe.
The second part covers advertising and promotions. At the meeting at the Zign Hotel, it was decided that Russia, India, and the Middle East would be the main markets targeted.


Amari Hotels and Resorts appoints group director of revenue management

Peter Henley, president & CEO of Amari Hotels and Resorts, has announced the appointment of Ms Lisa Donald as the new group director of revenue management for Amari Hotels and Resorts.

Lisa Donald has been appointed the new group director of revenue management for Amari Hotels and Resorts.

Ms Donald, an Australian national, brings to the role over 20 years experience in the hospitality industry. Since the late 1990’s Ms Donald has specialized in the field of revenue management, working with a variety of clients to assist in developing revenue management culture and to implement revenue strategies. Most recently, she was vice-president of client services with the Cairnhill Group Holdings in Singapore.
Ms Donald holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland and completed the Hotel Revenue Management Professional Development Course at Cornell-Nanyang Institute, Singapore, and certification in Hotel Revenue Management from eCornell School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University.
Duncan Webb, vice-president of sales & marketing, stated: “We are pleased to welcome Ms Donald to our team and look forward to working with her to build on Amari Hotels and Resorts existing revenue management strategies.”


Amari Hotels and Resorts appoints new general manager at Amari Don Muang Airport Hotel

Peter Henley, president & CEO of Amari Hotels and Resorts, has announced the appointment of Suphot Prakitjanuruk as general manager of Amari Don Muang Airport Hotel, Bangkok.

Suphot Prakitjanuruk has been promoted to general manager of Amari Don Muang Airport Hotel.

Suphot is a Thai national and a graduate in Economics, also holding certification in Yield Management from The Hague. He has amassed over 20 years of experience within the hospitality industry.
In 1992, he joined Amari Hotels and Resorts as front office manager at Amari Boulevard Hotel, Bangkok, and then went on to become general manager of St. James Hotel, an Amari Associate Hotel.
Suphot now oversees the smooth running of Amari Don Muang Airport Hotel, located within close proximity to Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport.
