The 2nd Pattaya International Fireworks Festival & Contest will be held on Saturday, August 14 to mark the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 78th birthday on August 12. The display and contest will take place close to Soi 4 on Pattaya Beach Road and will be put together by firework specialists from 11 countries. Father Ray Day: A two-day event will be held on Sunday, August 15 and Monday, August 16 to celebrate the life of and works of Father Ray Brennan. On Sunday at the Central Festival department store, children and students of the Fr. Ray Foundation will perform a series of shows to entertain the public of Pattaya. On August 14, during the international firework show, Ocean Marina Yacht Club’s Serenity Yacht, is organising a special trip leaving at 5:30 PM with a visit to the Sanctuary of Truth then anchoring offshore Pattaya Beach to watch fireworks. The next meeting of Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, August 15. Everyone is warmly welcome. The Club meets every Sunday morning at The Tavern by the Sea (formerly Henry J. Bean’s) located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort). The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Each week the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting. This week’s scheduled speaker will be Wallapha Vessanont from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya (BHP) who will be talking about hearing problems. BHP will have a “hearing cabin” available to conduct some free hearing tests during the meeting. This program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone.
