A tangled mess of live electric wires hanging over
buildings with tin roofs has a group of South Pattaya residents in a
panic over being electrocuted or their homes burning down.
Mayuree Intharak, a merchant near Sophon Market on
Soi 17, said electrical wires have long been a problem in the area,
despite repeated complaints to the Provincial Electric Authority.
PEA technicians continually come to install new
lines, but never remove the old ones, resulting in a dangerous spider
web of wires that start drooping and dropping from poles.
Residents, she said, have no idea which lines are
live and, with so many houses and businesses having corrugated tin
roofs, people are afraid of fires or even touching metal surfaces in
their houses, for fear of being electrocuted.
The 56-year-old said she and others have begged the
PEA to both come clean up the mess and better train their technicians,
but all they’ve received from the PEA are empty promises to come and fix
the situation.
