Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh chairs a meeting
to plan this year’s Chinese New Year events.
Phasakorn Channgam
Pattaya’s Chinese New Year celebration will move from
Bali Hai Pier to Naklua’s Lan Pho Park, where the city will again set up
a “Pattaya Chinatown” for the Feb. 3-5 celebration.
City officials met Jan. 18 to vet two companies vying
to organize the 2 million baht event with the nod going to Tenth Dec Co.
Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh noted that Chinese New
Year is always a popular holiday in Pattaya, due to the city’s large
number of Chinese-Thai residents and Chinese visitors.
The move to Naklua came after a dictate from Mayor
Itthiphol Kunplome that all traditional cultural events should be staged
in Naklua, the first community founded in the Pattaya area.
Other “modern” events, such as rock concerts, fashion shows and the
like, will continue to be staged at Bali Hai.
