Police raid 11 unlicensed Third Road bars

Acting on orders to crack down on bars outside entertainment zones, about 100 police officers and volunteers raided 11 unlicensed venues along Third Road.

The March 11 sweep came after Chonburi Deputy Gov. Preeda Somboonsap said the businesses were operating on the east side of Third Road, which is outside the established entertainment zone.

The venues not only were unlicensed, but were the cause of numerous noise complaints and drew underage customers, he claimed.

Ukrainian, 64, plunges to death from Jomtien hotel

An elderly Ukrainian man apparently jumped to his death from the eight floor of a Jomtien Beach hotel.

The body of Anatolii Gudz, 64, was found at the outside reception desk at the Ambassador City Hotel March 9. Wearing only a t-shirt and boxer shorts, Gudz died of a skull fracture and other injures.

Lt. Gen. Sompol Nakkampan said the Ukrainian had been living alone in the hotel and was reported by neighbors to be under a great deal of stress, possibly due to his relationship with his girlfriend.

Swiss man commits suicide as dog keeps watch

A heartbroken Swiss man apparently hung himself to death as his pet dog kept watch over his body.

Rolf Anton Steineer, 60, was found hanging behind his Soi Thungklom home near the Saknok Reservoir March 10. His Shihtzu sat a short distance away, barking at anyone who approached his dead master.

Friend Iris Bunier, 54, said she had come from Switzerland to help Steineer after the Thai woman he moved to Thailand to marry left him. She said her friend had been sad, but she never suspected he would kill himself.

Steineer’s body was transferred to the Forensics Institute and the Swiss embassy was contacted.

3 Italians drugged, robbed by North Pattaya hookers

Police are searching for three North Pattaya prostitutes suspected of drugging and robbing three Italian men in their Naklua guesthouse.

Police found Angelo Agostino Biagio Guenzi, 64; Raolo Stranges, 57; and Felice Bertolio, 42, lying naked on their respective beds at the Soi Roi Lang apartment block.

Guenzi reported that 12,000 baht in cash and a 20,000 baht watch was missing. Stranges said he lost 2,000 euros and Bertolio said 300 euros, 40,000 baht in mobile phones, a watch and credit card were taken from his room.

The men confessed they each picked up a bargirl between 25 and 30 years old at a North Pattaya beer bar. After having some beers offered to them, they fell unconscious.

All three women were clearly captured on security cameras and guesthouse staff had taken copies of the identification cards. Police are now trying to determine if the cards were genuine.

Woman arrested for pimping out 14-year-old ‘daughter’

A 29-year-old Thai woman was arrested Friday for allegedly pimping out her 14-year-old ‘daughter’ to foreigners for sex.

Janthima Limsawat of Srisaket and her girl were taken into custody outside the Carrefour shopping mall. She was arrested with the help of undercover foreign volunteers, who secured a deal for the teen’s services for 2,000 baht.

Police are uncertain, in fact, if the girl is Janthima’s actual daughter, but the alleged pimp was taken into custody on human trafficking charges until it can be sorted out.
