Against Women’ campaign.

Plutaluang community leaders and police assembled for a
seminar and parade to further HRH Princess Bajarakitiyabha’s “Say No to
Violence Against Women” campaign.
Participants in the March 10 event included staff of
Sattahip Km. 10 Hospital, Attorney General’s office, village chiefs, members
of the local Elderly Club and police commanders.
Plutaluang Sub-district President Taweep Tangkaew said
the event follows the outline of the national “Say No to Violence Against
Women” campaign launched by the princess, who is Thailand’s representative
to the United Nations’ UNIFEM organization. It works to combat physical and
mental abuse of women and children, often at the hands of family members or
spouses.
Taweep said he hopes the Plutaluang effort will raise
awareness of the problem. He said 40 percent of Thai women between 15 and 49
have been a victim of some sort of physical or mental abuse. Sexual abuse
occurs most often against girls ages 11-18, he said.
