Marching bands drum up fervor on Beach Road
Marching bands march down Beach Road trying
to be the best of the Thailand International Marching Band Competition.
Manoon Makpol
Student marching bands from Thailand, Malaysia and Hong Kong drummed up
lots of interest from Pattaya locals and tourists as they battled in the
first round of the Thailand International Marching Band Competition.
Twenty-two school high school and elementary school bands completed
Sept. 8 on Beach Road near Central Festival Pattaya Beach in a “street
parade” contest. The contest moved to the MBK mall in Bangkok the next
day for a “drum battle” and wrapped with a conventional marching band
competition at the National Sports Arena in Bangkok.
The three-day competition, which organizers predicted would draw more
than 100,000 people in all, was organized by the Ministry of Tourism and
Sports with the World Association of Marching Show Bands and Asia
Pacific Bands Association.
