Nong Nooch Tropical Garden has another star
attraction after popular elephant Duanpen gave birth to a new calf.
Park Director Kampol Tansajja announced the birth
Friday, Jan. 13, two days after the 26-year-old cow went into labor at
the garden’s west gate around 5 a.m. Within a few minutes, the new baby
was running about and suckling her mother.
Monks will be consulted for a name for the new calf,
which is the fourth offspring of Duanpen and the 37th for 34-year-old
father Bird. The bull breeder’s most-recent calf was born in August.
With the most-recent addition, Nong Nooch is now home
to 45 elephants.
