A 2-year-old was scratched and scared, but otherwise
unhurt, after getting lost in a wooded area behind his preschool.
Sinchai Kaewsamphao, 59, found little Garfield Rachan
crying at the edge of the jungle not far from Baan Khru Jurairat School
on Thappraya Road Jan. 16. The area resident said he’d heard a child
crying for about 20 minutes, but had assumed it was a neighbor until he
went outside the see the boy standing there.
A caretaker at Baan Khru Jurairat School said she had
left the back door of the nursery school open, but assumed none of the
children would venture out as it was overgrown behind the school. She
had left the room to get milk and, when she returned, the boy was gone.
School staffers and the boy’s nanny searched the
100-rai jungle for an hour before the child found his way to Sinchai’s
house. He had been scratched by thorns, but was otherwise uninjured.
Authorities treated the scratch and returned the toddler to his parents.
