Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome honored and encouraged more
than 1,000 Pattaya teachers at a National Teacher’s Day celebration at
the Pattaya Indoor Stadium.
The Jan. 16 ceremony began with an offering of dried
foods to monks in a merit-making deed dedicated to new teachers. The
mayor lit candles and chanted prayers offered by the monks. A moment of
silence to honor teachers followed.
Itthiphol then presented awards to Kasem Chiewjew,
principal of Pattaya School No. 9, as outstanding principal of the year,
and to Sucheep Homcharoen of Pattaya School No. 7 for outstanding
assistant principal.
The mayor then read the Teacher’s Day message from
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, which extolled the importance of
teachers and called on them to be wise and moral role models.
Ceremonies finished, the teachers then participated
in games and arts activities to strengthen their bonds.
Pattaya’s 10 public schools split into four teams of
male and female athletes who faced off in volleyball and football.
After, they enjoyed a Chinese buffet and watched
musical and stage shows, followed by a lucky draw for prizes.
