Human-trafficking police raided suspected South
Pattaya brothels arresting 29 alleged prostitutes and the owners of four
buildings where they congregated.
The Jan. 21 raid came after trafficking division
officers received complaints that young women were being pressed into
solicitation outside a shophouse on Soi Daeng Dum and Thepprasit Soi 12.
Sixteen women were apprehended while allegedly soliciting customers
outside the building. Each were brought to Banglamung Police Station,
fined 500 baht each and released.
Raids of three other Thepprasit-area shophouses
netted eight more women and the arrest of the owners of the Ruk Jung, KK
and Ruu-Jai stores. The women again were released after paying a fine
and the owners were charged with trafficking women for prostitution.
