Who said pizza is
fattening?
Just try the scrumptious, quick from the oven, seafood or vegetarian
pizzas at Duilio’s (Top Class) Roman Garden restaurant adjacent to Foodland
before or after your next shopping trip, you’ll know immediately that you’re
eating health and goodness and your trim waist (if you’ve got one) is safe!
Delicious, less restrained ones also available and, if you don’t want the
calories, skip the mozzarella. Smashing place for a lunch or dinner meal too,
and sooo convenient for shopping!
The heat is on
Short sighted miner Arthur Grimshaw is in serious trouble after his
holiday-of-a-lifetime in Southern Thailand went sour. He was driving along a
country road near Phuket when he noticed, by the kerbside, a brand new microwave
oven which he promptly placed on the back seat as an unusual souvenir. But he
was stopped by the highway police 200 yards down the road and is now awaiting
trial on a charge of attempting to steal a radar speed trap device currently
being piloted.
Satellite off the air
Thai Sky’s 30,000 TV subscribers appear to have lost their money
after transmission ceased last month. The company did not pay the rental fee to
the operators of Thaicom satellites leading to a total cut in services. However,
IBC, which shares a satellite with Thai Sky, thankfully took over BBC World and
Cinemax before the Thai Sky collapse. But if you used to rely on Thai Sky for
Star Movies, TNT and the Cartoon Network and some light entertainment channels,
you are currently out of luck.
UK eases regulations
Foreigners in long term heterosexual and homosexual relationships
with British nationals may find it easier to settle in the United Kingdom.
Following a review of immigration procedures, the government intends to grant
long visas to foreigners who are not married to Brits, but can demonstrate a
close relationship over several past years. Better start saving those love
letters and receipts for expensive jewelry in a detailed file.
Breezy restaurant
Some of Naklua’s sois have delightful hideaways for the intrepid
traveler. Try the squeaky clean open air café, Short Time Two, which is on Soi
12 off the Naklua road. German breakfasts are particularly good value and there
is usually a refreshing cool breeze even on hot days.
The talcum powder plot
From AFP: British police, investigating the firebombings believed to
be the work of a group calling itself the Animal Rights Militia, were delighted
when they got wind of an ARM meeting in the sleepy town of Truro in Cornwall.
Undercover officers duly swooped at 9 p.m. but found talcum powder and not
gunpowder on the agenda. They had raided a meeting of the Association of Radical
Midwives.
The latest scam
A bar in Soi Diamond is proclaiming that there is no change in its
beer prices even though wholesale costs and tax have risen considerably. True,
but your Singha or whatever is now being served in a glass which holds a lot
less than a full bottle. More than ever, it pays to shop around in Pattaya’s
entertainment spots where the same beer can cost you anywhere between 28 and 150
baht according to when and where you satisfy your thirst.
Cambodia back to normal
Intrepid Pattaya visa runners report that it’s business as usual in
Phnom Penh. This means that you will now find the situation for short stay
visitors the same as it was before the summer internal coup. As previously, the
golden rule is to travel at night only by limousine taxi. Hotel prices have
fallen in the wake of falling tourist numbers, but the actual fighting is
nowhere near Phnom Penh.
Rubbing it on
Dog loving retirees Martin and Inga Rosenberg found a new lease of
life when they rented a charming villa near the Sukhumvit highway. But their
fortunes changed forever when Martin developed a treatment to make his
greyhounds, Volksturm and Panzerfaust, run faster whilst also appearing to help
his wife’s arthritis. He said, “After the success with the dogs, I tried the
ointment on Inga who suffers from arthritis in her knees. It used to take her
ages to get moving in the morning, but after two rubbings she could get up
straight away.” Word soon spread and the couple were deluged with orders from as
far away as Germany for the miracle cure which apparently contains mushrooms and
tree sap. One newspaper headline proclaimed, “Good Samaritan Brings Hope to
Thousands of Sufferers.” Mr. Rosenberg is currently awaiting deportation from
Thailand on a charge of working illegally without a work permit.
