Norwegian, 68, drowns
at Dongtan Beach
Boonlua Chatree
An elderly Norwegian drowned off Jomtien Beach after a day of
drinking and sunbathing.
The lifeless body of Leif Anders Lonvik, 68, was pulled ashore at
Dongtan Beach April 5. Efforts at CPR failed.
Police said witnesses reported that Lonvik was a common visitor to the
beach and would spend his days drinking beer and sunbathing. No one
apparently thought anything of it when he went for a swim.
Police speculated Lonvik was drunk and drowned, but the body was sent to
the Forensics Institute for more-scientific determination.
