Consumer Protection
Board to head Pattaya
boat-inspection task force
Phasakorn Channgam
The Office of the Consumer Protection Bureau has been tabbed to head an
interagency team directed to inspect Pattaya boat operators in hopes of
restoring tourist confidence in marine safety.
OCPB Director Santu Phormphan chaired a Nov. 11 meeting with representatives
from the Thai Marine Department, Department of Special Investigations and
Pattaya City Hall to organize crews that will check for boat operators’
readiness in handling emergencies.
All parties agreed on the need to vigorously check the licenses of captains and
boat crews, as well as ferry and boat companies. As heard so many times before,
“serious action” was again promised in case violations are found.
To show their resolve, the officers immediately trouped down to Bali Hai Pier
for the media to carry out an inspection of boats there.
