A woman and child were killed and three injured when their driver
likely fell asleep behind the wheel in Pong.
Front-seat passengers Radeewan Sungserth, 32, and nephew Theerapat, 4, died
when her husband Phithak, 32, drove their Chevrolet RVO into a tree on
Highway 36 in Klongyai Jan. 5. Phithak and back-seat passengers Orawee
Khamto, 27, Ratchadaporn Wannavijin, 27, were injured. Trapped in the
vehicle, rescue crews needed to cut them from the vehicle before transport
to Banglamung Hospital.
Investigators said Phithak was driving his sister and nephew home in Bankhai
from Amnartcharoen when, around 7:30 a.m., he likely fell asleep, veering
the car into a tree. Police were waiting until the victims recovered well
enough to be interviewed to determine the exact cause.
