Young love leads to murder

Banglamung police received a report from a citizen that there had been a shooting death in Soi Fah Miajakan, at the side of Perm Sap housing project on Sanarm Golf Road.
Police went to the scene and found the body of a Thai man, Jamras Kiartitat, 25, from Chonburi. The body was lying face-down with one leg draped over the saddle of a motorcycle. The fatal wound was from a 9 millimetre gun. The bullet had gone in his right ear and out his left. Police found the bullet casing about 10 metres from the body. Upon searching the body, police found 1,100 baht in cash but no personal identification.
At the scene, police questioned Ms. Ratana Jitpoh, 28, who had come to observe the proceedings. She told police that the victim was an acquaintance and had been living at her family’s house. He had brought his 17 year old wife to live at the house approximately 2 weeks before the shooting. She only knew that the couple could not live at the shooting victim’s home but could give no further details.
Police then summoned for questioning the dead man’s wife, Anchalee Srivichien, 17, a worker at a wood products factory on Sukhumvit Road. She told the police that the victim’s real name was Jamras and that he had worked as a water delivery person. She said she and the victim had been in love for a long time, but her family objected to the relationship. They ignored her parents and about one month before the shooting, ran away together. Her family found out where they were and caused a large fuss.
Before the shooting, the victim borrowed Ms. Ratana’s motorcycle, taken Anchalee to work and returned. Anchalee only learned of her common law husband’s death upon her arrival at the police station. As to what he did when she was working, she didn’t know.
Police surmise that the killing was due to Jamras’ improper behaviour and his not asking for the girl’s hand in marriage in the proper way. Police also surmised that the family had hired a professional gunman to solve the problem. Police have leads as to who the gunman is and are gathering evidence to make a case.
