Organizers of Sattahip’s Ban
Tao Tan anti-drug program hold a small parade to thank HM the Queen for
supporting their cause.
Patcharapol Panrak
Sattahip’s Ban Tao Tan anti-drug program received a royal
nod of approval when the Moo 8 village received more than 20,000 baht from
HM the Queen’s “Mother of the Land Fund.”
The award, made to dozens of villages around the country
on HM Queen’s 79th birthday, will be used to grow a program aimed at curbing
drug addiction. The neighborhood has already set up a squad of volunteer
self-defense patrols who help to patrol the area for illegal drug use and
watch out for other crimes.
Village Chief Somjai Sangthong accepted the 21,400 baht
donation from Sattahip District Chief Chaichan Iamcharoen and Mayor Narong
Boonbunjerdsri at the Wat Thep multi-purpose building Aug. 12.
Narong told Somjai HM the Queen’s royal fund is very
special and that the funds must be put to maximum use to benefit the
community. He said HM the Queen is keen to fund programs to quell Thailand’s
drug problem.
