Temple neighborhood
Some of the storm drains are
so blocked with debris, they are difficult to locate.

Top Pattaya and Banglamung District officials inspected damage and
handed out relief packages to 150 Thamsamakkee Temple-area families affected
by last month’s record flooding.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Banglamung District Chief Chawalit Saeng-Uthai and
Pattaya City Council members toured hardest-hit Soi 8 Nanaphan where Sept.
11’s monsoon drove two meters of soil into the streets, blocking drains and
causing about two meters of water to pool. Other homes were submerged in
solid waste from damaged landfills.
Officials inspected a stretch of vacant public land next to the street and
pledged to install a new drainage pipeline to take storm water 500 meters to
Soi Khao Noi, even though that street too suffered severe flooding.
Officials also handed out rice, instant noodles, other dried foods and
general relief supplies to 150 flood victims. The mayor promised affected
families that city workers would be back within days to remove the stagnant
water and waste and begin preparations for new storm-water outlets.
