With this weekend’s national elections again spotlighting
the divisions in Thai society, Chonburi officials made a plea for unity and
harmony with a debate between area school children.
Deputy Gov. Pongsak Preechawit opened the first in a
series of unity-building events planned by the Chonburi Public Relations
Department June 20 at Chonrat Amrung School. The goal is to strengthen the
solidarity and unity of the nation for students and youth to get a better
understanding of the creation of unity and solidarity, and to further extend
it to the family, community and society.
Students from Chonrat Amrung School and Chonkalyanukul
School debated on power, unity and harmony. Sunee Kaew-urai, a technical
expert from the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 18, Nanthawan
Kankam, a journalist from Chonburi Provincial Radio Thailand, and Prasert
Chuaykaew, a communications arts lecturer from Burapha University, served as
judges.
The students were requested to use correct Thai language
with polite words, creative ideas, to wake up the current cooperation to
overcome crisis, political views, different ideas, helping to create love,
unity, and reconciliation amongst people in all professions.
In keeping with the theme of harmony, both teams were declared the
winners and were awarded 1,200 baht. Pongsak also gave each team 500 baht of
his own money to boost morale.
