Events

The 2011 Pattaya Motor Show is currently ongoing on the ground floor of the Central Beach shopping mall and will conclude this coming Sunday evening, August 7. The event features a variety of luxury vehicles on display from different manufacturers as well as the star of the show, an F1 Lotus Renault race car. There will also be a Miss Pattaya Motor Show 2011 contest and other promotional activities taking place over the weekend.

On the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday, the Amari Orchid Pattaya, in conjunction with The Royal Project will present a 79 meter long charity peach chocolate cake at Central Center Pattaya from 11th- 14th August, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. There will also be a product exhibition by The Royal Project, exciting shows on stage from students of various Pattaya schools, traditional Thai music contest, and a young talent entertainer contest to add to the fun and festivities. After deduction of costs, all funds raised will be donated to the Amari Orchid Pattaya ‘Baht for a Better Life’ charity which helps children from underprivileged backgrounds and to local school projects in order to assist in the development of education in Pattaya City. The Lighthouse Club Pattaya will be holding their monthly charity networking evening at the Zulu Bar, Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort on Friday, 5th August from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Admission is THB 300 for all ladies and voucher-members, THB 600 for all non-members. Able the Disabled Foundation will be holding a Country Fair at Horseshoe Point, Pattaya on October 1-2 and stalls are available for vendors to showcase their products. Clubs and Associations

The next meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, August 7. The guest speaker will be Darryl Read, an entertainer who will talk about touring and recording with famous people. The Club meets every Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea Restaurant located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort). The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m. Each week the PCEC has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting. The program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone. The ICE Bar at the Amari Orchid Pattaya is currently showcasing an exhibition titled “Arts for the Planet 2011”, an annual project to engage the younger generation and foster critical thinking about key environmental issues. The exhibit features a selection of paintings from this year’s live painting competitions in Bangkok and Phuket in conjunction with Earth Day 2011, under the theme ‘Colours of Nature’, and will be on display until 7 August 2011.
