Broken buoys

Editor;

We now have found in some areas of Jomtien Beach, that the swim buoys are breaking up daily, due to the rage of Mother Natures, waves, currents, tides and wind. The swim buoys should all be removed in these areas, they are making an unrepairable mess out of our ocean and making our beaches in these areas not fit for beach-goers.

The buoys’ outer shell of plastic after breaking up might be ingested by our seafood, and all types of sea creatures including seabirds could die.

The buoys inner-flotation foam, after it breaks up, looks like jellyfish, and might be ingested by turtles and others that feed on jellyfish, many also could die.

In the ocean, is another unseen story; these buoys are breaking lose, some becoming beached, the broken buoys outer plastic shell is being removed to sell, the foam is left behind, breaking up, becoming a mess and danger to our ocean, what lives in it and off of it.

If we could only get Pattaya City Hall and the manufacture to agree to agree, that a mistake has been made and they both should immediately take responsibility, for this ongoing beach and ocean mess, and take care! (NOW) Not after they have all broken up and left behind dangers to all sea-life, an eye-soar to all beach-goers, many will decide not to come out and play on our beaches.

If there is anybody interested in lending a hand to help remove some of these dangers or a finger, to call 1337 and share your disappointment in the lack of action, taking place, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Gerry Rasmus, aka KOTO

Shut down polluting boiler

Dear Sir,
Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel, formerly Royal Jomtien Hotel where 91 people died due to a fire in July 1997, are at it again. But this time they are aiming at many more victims, by poisoning the atmosphere around their hotel through their boilers/incinerators. We live behind the hotel and the prevailing wind blows the toxic smoke our way. For months we have complained about the thick black choking smoke from their boilers, finally forcing a visit to them last week by the City Hall Pollution Officer. We also wrote to the Environmental Agency in Bangkok, and spoke to hotel representatives, who promised the position would improve.

The latest information we have is that they are waiting for replacement parts from Germany. At first they said it would take up to 3 months, then changed it to 1 month. City Hall seem content to wait for the parts to arrive. Meantime, we are, slowly but surely, being poisoned by the smoke. Bearing in mind there are many young children in the area it would seem the hotel and the authorities are satisfied that hotel guests receive hot water at the expense of neighbourhood residents’ health and well being not to mention damage to the environment. We are requesting that this very old boiler contraption should be closed down, until spare parts arrive, or the thing should be replaced altogether.
We have been trying to see the mayor himself, without much success so far.

Why’d you change my number?

Editor,

Our house telephone (038) was not working for a few days, so I went to T.O.T. to tell them. The next day we got a call from a technician, appears a telephone line down the road was burned. But he said our phone did work again, only with a different number! We had our phone number for over 10 years, always paid correctly. We have a long-time business here with advertising, signboards, business cards and many customers.

Of course, I went to T.O.T. several times to complain, but they could not change it back. No excuses, nothing, just accept the new number. Hell no! I’ve had enough with T.O.T. Is this the way to treat long-time customers? Just change the number if you can’t fix the problem?
No more T.O.T. for me, that’s for sure,
Have a nice day,
Leo
