130 at-risk youths to receive behavioral training

Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn presides over a meeting to help our youths have a more promising future.

WARUNYA THONGROD
More than 100 Pattaya school children will travel to Chantaburi June 19-21 to learn how to avoid risky situations and become better members of society.
The Pattaya Social Development Department is sponsoring the field trip for high-risk youths targeted by the city for behavior modification. A similar training camp was run last June.
At a May 21 planning meeting, Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn and Social Development Director Pannee Limcharoen said training will focus on positioning youths in peer groups, learning to choose good friends, self-esteem, not succumbing to peer pressure and learning to use free time productively.
Ten students from each of Pattaya’s 13 schools will attend. The students are being chosen due to negative behavior or due to living in at-risk circumstances.
Pannee said the training session is aimed at reducing negative behavior, getting kids to control their emotions, think for themselves and not act out. Sessions will have students visualize the impact of their actions and take accountability.
Wutisak said the city is concerned about the development of children, as social problems are on the rise and many of these problems can catch up to youths.
