Area Lions clubs are joining Pattaya’s efforts to clean up
Naklua’s Nok Yang Canal.
Lions Club members from regions 8 and 9 joined the Naklua Bay
Preservation Group at the Yao Bridge near the Old Naklua Market May 16
for the “Restoration of Nature to Naklua Bay” campaign. They were joined
by representatives from the Royal Thai Marines and employees of Central
Festival Pattaya Beach.
About 300 people picked up trash, branches, construction materials and
rocks during low tide. Much of that has washed into the drainage canal
from points east (inland).
Pattaya City Hall April 4 announced a concerted effort to restore Nok
Yang Canal to make it a stop on future eco-tourism tours.
The mayor said the city will remove garbage and clean the canal, then
move to protect mangroves planted by the Naklua Bay Preservation Group.
The hope is it will someday become an environmental treasure with an
abundance and diversity of life.
The city said it also will work to educate canal-area residents to end
the garbage dumping and pollution of the waterway. It will also
encourage programs for youths to use the area as a knowledge center.
