For the fourth consecutive year, Pattaya’s Nong Nooch Tropical
Garden has won a gold medal for its Thai orchids at the Chelsea Flower
Show in London.
Nong Nooch Director Kampol Tansajja said May 21 that judges from the
United Kingdom’s Royal Horticultural Society honored the kingdom with a
medal for a display of Thai plants and flowers surrounding a traditional
Thai farmer’s house. The exhibit also featured a wooden Thai elephant
and a recreation of the Royal Thai Barge, all decorated with orchids and
other Thai plants.
He said the string of medals the park has earned since 2010 made park
employees proud and they were honored Queen Elizabeth II saw the exhibit
while attending the show.

Kampol said this year’s show proved extra special
because Thailand’s display was located on the route Queen Elizabeth II
and Prince Charles took, offering the royal couple a chance to marvel at
the kingdom’s display.
The orchids in Thailand’s display actually grew from the crop that
populated last year’s award winning exhibition. All the flowers were
originally exported from Thailand.

everyone involved is tired from the effort, but proud of the result. He
said Thailand was the only country from Southeast Asia to participate.
