More than 300 Pattaya residents were given lessons in accounting
and tips on saving money as part of a Pattaya Community Security Fund
workshop on living by HM the King’s “sufficiency economy” philosophy.
Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh opened the July 22 seminar
featuring speakers from the Government Savings Bank on money-saving
measures, account management and implementing the sufficiency-economy
model.
The deputy mayor also awarded eight scholarships of 500 baht each to
students with grade-point averages above 3.5.
The attendees, who are active in Pattaya’s 41 community organizations,
heard a lecture called “Know Your Income and Expenses,” which encouraged
them to efficiently manage finances for utmost personal and community
benefits.
Bank employees also offered money-saving tips attendees can use in their
personal lives to increase family savings levels. The bank also handed
out passbooks to encourage everyone to save for the future.
Good accounting and saving money is a key component of HM the King’s
sufficiency philosophy, which encourages family and communities to
survive independently and not rely out on outside sources of funding or
aid.
The workshop is only part of a schedule of activities planned for the
rest of the year. The next event, training on welfare coordination, runs
Aug. 4-5 in Prachinburi and Srakaew. Future events cover creating piggy
banks for savings and saving following the sufficiency-economy
principle.
