Vegetarian festival celebrated

Visit Nititham, the Head of the Board of Directors of the Sawang Boriboon Dhamma Foundation, presided over the foundation’s vegetarian festival on October 19th. This annual festival, during which no animal or meat products are eaten, is a traditional festival of the Chinese community in Thailand. The festival is one month in duration.
In addition to this there are many works of charity done for the needy. They are given money, clothes and necessary personal items. Merit making, such as releasing turtles and fish, is also done, as well as respect being paid to ancestors. This is done by burning paper money and other personal items as offerings to their ancestors in heaven.
Censors are also filled with fragrant incense and holy candles are kept burning night and day for the duration of the festival. Mr. Visit said 200,000 baht in cash was donated, along with non-perishable foodstuffs to the needy in Pattaya.

The area’s Thai-Chinese community donated to the needy during their annual Vegetarian Festival in October.
