Pattaya’s Public Health and Environment Department
again rolled out its mobile medical unit into the community to both
relieve overcrowding at local hospitals and serve those who otherwise
wouldn’t go to the doctor.
On Monday January 31, the team went to the Roilang
community on Pattaya-Naklua Road and on Wednesday February 2, the unit
went to the aerobics training ground next to the Sukhawadee House on
Sukhumvit Road.
The mobile unit aims to serve 2,000 patients during
2011, doing follow-up calls on the chronically ill and offering basic
health and dental services to others.
Among the services offered free were dental
examinations and information about tooth disease; family planning and
distribution of condoms; rabies vaccinations, distribution of rodent
pesticide and information on products to remove fleas and ticks; food
safety training and tips on herbal medicines.
Deputy Mayor Verawat Khakhay said the project is a
great way to reach those who refuse or unable to visit doctors. While
serious illnesses cannot be treated, the services and information
provided, he said, are aimed at disease prevention.
