Residents say 10-wheeled trucks carrying
soil are throwing dirt and dust into the air, causing respiratory
problems in neighborhood children.
Patcharapol Panrak
Sattahip officials are promising to prosecute
truckers carting soil dug up from a Plutaluang village unless action is
taken to cut down on dust allegedly causing respiratory problems in
neighborhood children.
Residents of Plutaluang Village 6 filed complaints
with Sattahip District and Plutaluang Sub-District July 10, saying
10-wheeled trucks carrying soil dug out of a construction project in
Plutaluang Village 8 were throwing dirt and dust into the air along the
road linking Samor Thong Village and Tungprong Temple.
Samniang Geerasi, 46, said the dust has caused
allergic and asthma problems for her eight children, with her youngest
requiring medication to assist her breathing.
Problems stem from a parcel of land owned by Supin
Sohkarn, who obtained a legal permit to dig up soil on his property and
sell it outside the area. But large amounts of dirt and dust are being
thrown into the air by both the backhoes and the open trucks as they
speed down the local roads.
Local officials said they obtained an agreement from
the trucking company to spray water on the road and reduce speed to cut
down on the dust. If that agreement is breached, officials said, they
pledged to prosecute the landowner and trucking companies for causing a
nuisance.
