More than 150 more area families each received
compensation for damage caused by local flooding in September and
October.
Banglamung District Chief Chawalit Saeng-Uthai and
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome presented the disaster payments to 158
families at the Banglamung District Office Jan. 10.
Farmers and fishermen received 4,225 baht per rai
affected by flooding. Farms for shrimp, crab and scallops were
compensated at 10,920 baht per rai and damaged cages, cement tanks and
similar items were paid off at 315 baht per sq. centimeter. Payouts were
capped at five rai and 80 sq. centimeters.
The funds came from the national government’s
flood-disaster compensation fund. Families could qualify for the stipend
if they had to evacuate their homes quickly or lived in flooded
conditions for seven days.
The Banglamung and Pattaya cases stemmed from
substandard infrastructure that prevented heavy rains on Sept. 30 and
Oct. 8 from draining quickly.
