Officials vaccinate a cat
against rabies at Jittapawan Temple.
Phasakorn Channgam
Pattaya’s Public Health and Environment Office
offered free vaccinations and sterilization for pets in the Jittapawan
Temple neighborhood.
The Jan. 10 outreach program was aimed at controlling
the animal population, as many unwanted pets are left at temples such as
Jittapawan when their owners discard them. Vaccinations against rabies
and other diseases also promote safety in the community, city workers
said.
Area resident Sompong Nomsuk said the city service
was a valuable one as more area dogs and cats go unvaccinated as most of
the residents are too poor to pay for shots.
Among the services offered were birth control in
pets, permanent sterilizations in dogs and cats, checks for parasites
and dermatological disease treatment.
