Pier, part of the city’s ongoing effort to mitigate flooding when the
heaviest rains hit in September and November.

With rainy season about to kick into high gear, city workers
cleared five drainage pipes at Bali Hai Pier, ensuring nothing blocks
floodwaters from emptying into the sea.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome led Sanitation Engineering Department staffers
to the pier Aug. 5 for the job to clear sand, garbage and natural debris
from the tail ends of the pipelines carrying water from eastern parts of
the city.
The work was not easy, but better flow was created by the end of the
day. It was not complete, however. Crews were back for the next three
days, removing sand that both came down through the pipeline and was
washed into it from the beach.
