The crew burns cut grass
and vegetation in a roadside ditch, causing poor visibility and creating
some near misses.

A road crew that apparently cared only about its own needs
brought traffic to a standstill on Sukhumvit Road in Najomtien by
stopping a backhoe in one lane and burning grass to create blinding
smoke.
The rogue crew, assigned by Najomtien sub-district, was clearing out
roadside vegetation on Sukhumvit near the Yansangwararam Worawihan
Temple intersection Aug. 8. Workers parked their backhoe in the right
lane, not bothering to put traffic cones or signs behind it.
The crew compounded problems by then burning the cut grass and
vegetation in a roadside ditch. The resulting thick smoke forced drivers
to slow down, with many nearly plowing into the backhoe as it suddenly
appeared out of the smoke.
