Police and military officials continued their crackdown on area loan
sharks, arresting another five men allegedly running illegal money-lending
operations out of two East Pattaya houses.
Army officers from Chonburi’s 14th Military Circle and area police raided
the homes in Eakmongkol Village 4 on Soi Khao Talo Aug. 5, arresting Anupat
Champuk, 29, Peerapong Inthakong, 21, Hernfa Sansern, 21, Ronnachit Impong,
27 and Badin Poonsawat, 18. Account books, mobile phones, motorbikes and
cash were seized.
The arrests came after complaints that a loan shark known only as “Pak” was
extorting locals who had taken out 60 percent loans. Those who couldn’t pay
were threatened with bodily harm by the alleged enforcers arrested. The hunt
continues for Pak.
The raid was the third in as many weeks by police and military personnel
under orders from the National Council for Peace and Order to wipe out
organized crime in Pattaya.
