The Naklua “Walking Street” market will open for the sixth year Nov. 30
with stage performances and a concert by one half of Girly Berry.
Pattaya Deputy Mayor Wattana Chantanawaranon presided over the Nov. 21 meeting
to put the finishing touches on plans for the market, which will feature more
than 100 booths and concerts each weekend through Jan. 18. The market was
officially announced at a Nov. 24 press conference with Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome
and Damrong Thongsom, deputy director-general of the Office of the National
Culture Commission.
Themed “Sunset at Baan Naklua,” the market this year opens Sunday with a 4-10
p.m. event that begins with a ceremony in front of Government Savings Bank led
by Itthiphol, former Culture Minister Sonthaya Kunplome and Nanthiya
Sawangwuthitham, director-general of the Culture Promotion Department at the
ministry.
The opening day also includes a performance of “Amazing Suvarnabhumi,” based on
the wonders of Thailand and society, plus a concert from Gybzy of Girly Berry
and Film Rattaphum.
Naklua Walking Street will be open each Saturday and Sunday through Jan. 18 and
each weekend will have cultural shows sponsored by the Ministry of Culture.
The market is aimed at highlighting historical culture and products in the
Naklua area, harkening back to its days as a sleepy fishing village. It has been
held each winter for the past five years.
At the planning meeting, Wattana reviewed security, parking, sanitation and
other matters that have been the source of so many issues, hoping everything
will go smoothly this year.
