The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has begun training volunteers to
provide assistance and hospitality service to tourists.
Suthum Dechdi, administrative director for the ministry’s permanent secretary,
and Weerawut Thapinta, director of the ministry’s Bureau of Prevention and
Assistance in Tourist Fraud Deputy, joined Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh
at the Nov. 20 training session for the volunteers.
Suthum said developing tourism-related personnel would help revive the industry
following this year’s political upheaval. He reasoned that if tourists receive
good service and are impressed with the Thai attractions, people and culture, it
could lead to sustainable growth.
The volunteer-training program was aimed at passenger-transport operators and
hoteliers, teaching them to provide good service so tourists will feel
comfortable, secure and happy during their stay.
The training consisted of English conversation, impressive hospitality,
important elements in being a good host, ideal service provision, and tourist
security.
The session was aimed at promoting service quality and encouraging service
providers to work alongside the government to take care of tourists.
