Eighty-eight men took their first steps toward monkhood when
they had their heads shaved at the beginning of a multi-day ordination
process at city hall.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome presided over the Dec. 1 ceremony for those
looking to become ordained to honor HM the King on his 87th birthday
Dec. 5.
Following the hair-cutting, the novices were presented their monk robes
in preparation for the following day’s ceremony at Jittapawan Wittayalai
Temple. They were ordained in the afternoon at Phuttiwanaram, Sawang Fah
Pritaram, Nong Yai and Thamsamakkee temples.
Part of the ordination ceremony was sponsored by Pattaya and part by
residents.
All the men were at least 20 years old and they remained monks for a
minimum 10 days, with the option to continue.
