Sakha Ali U Ramahi was
beaten and robbed while resting in his hotel room.
Pattaya police received a report from an employee of
the Furama Beach Hotel that a foreign tourist, Sakha Ali U Ramahi (sic),
36, a native of Qatar, was robbed and handcuffed in his room. He was
also beaten.
The victim told police that he had called room service to order tea.
About ten minutes later there was a knock at the door. Thinking it was
hotel staff, he opened it to find two Thai men offering to sell him
heroin. He refused the offer.
When he refused the offer, the two men then pushed him into his room and
hit him on the head 6 times with a pistol, then handcuffed him and
ransacked his room for valuables. After finding US$800, they fled.
Upon questioning the security guard at the hotel, he gave testimony that
he had seen one of the robbers walking around the hotel with friends 3
days before the incident. As they looked suspicious, he asked them to
sign the visitors register. The man signed as Mr. Aek Sasomsap (which in
the Thai language means ‘The best at collecting the valuables) of
Khorat. When police searched the victim’s room, they found two vials of
heroin which they kept as evidence. The investigation continues.
