Greek tourist victim of pick-pockets
Police caution tourists not to be conned by cute and
pitiful kids selling flowers and chewing gum. Many are adept at the age old
“art” of pick-pocketing, as Greek tourist, Christos Silas, 34, found out and
later reported to the police.
Silas told police he had left his hotel on December 12 to look for some
entertainment on Soi 8, off Pattaya Second Road. Sitting at one of the bars
on the street, two young girls of about 12 or 13 years of age selling roses
approached him and asked him to buy roses at 100 baht a bunch. When Silas
didn’t buy, the girls, pretending to annoy him into acquiescence, put their
arms around his waist. Then they suddenly departed.
Silas then went into a nearby bar, and when asked to pay his bill, he found
his wallet and money had disappeared. Thinking it could only be the two
young girls selling roses, Silas searched for them, but to no avail. After
which he filed a complaint with police.
His wallet contained 30,000 Korean Won (approx. 1000 baht), 200 US Dollars
and approx. 800 baht. The total amount taken was about 7000 baht. Police are
reportedly looking into the matter.
