GTC Festival 1997 to be held in Chonburi
Mr. Sonkhuan Nokhongse, head of the Cultural Counsel
of Chonburi, told reporters that the National Cultural Counsel has given
Chonburi the honour of being the host of the “Grand Thai Cultural
Festival of 1997.” This festival’s theme will be “A Grand Cultural
Festival to Honour His majesty the King on His Golden Jubilee.” The
exact activities to be held will be decided at an upcoming meeting.
The symbol of the festival will be a Busabok, a throne with four posts
supporting a roof or spire. This image will be passed from last year’s
host province to Chonburi.
The National Cultural Counsel has appointed Chanapongse Chakapark,
Deputy Governor of Chonburi, and Somkhuan Nokhong, Head of the Chonburi
Cultural Counsel, to travel to Lampang, last year’s host province, to
receive the Busabok from the Governor of Lampang. It will then be
brought to Sujarit Pajchimnan, Governor of Chonburi, and will stay in
Chonburi for 1 year.
The first “Grand Cultural Festival” was held in Chiang Mai in 1986. The
province selected to host the fair is the representative of its entire
region, be it North, South, Central or Isarn. Each region presents
exhibitions, performances and demonstrations of its local customs.
