Dismal turn-out for City Council election
Due to the resignation of councilman Charnsak
Chavalitnititham, Pattaya’s City Council held an election on December 15th.
Although the city had set up 46 polling stations, only 2,013 of 40,000
eligible voters actually turned out to vote. This amounted to only 1.8% of
those eligible.
Reporters from Pattaya Mail visited all 46 polling stations and found the
atmosphere dead, with an average of 2 eligible voters visiting the polls
each hour.
Pisai Phanomwan won the people’s popular vote by a large margin, garnering
1,242 votes. Phrai Mankong came second with 563 votes. Direk Pongsak came
last with 208 votes.
