The Cliffters - still on top
The Rotary Club of Jomtien/Pattaya has done it again.
After bringing to Pattaya a superb piano concert, a rock & roll band from
the US Navy, and the show “A Night on Broadway”, they still have one more
ace up their sleeve. Thanks to the Rotary Club, the Cliffters, an
internationally known band from Denmark, are returning to Pattaya.
The Cliffters will be performing at the Moon River Pub in North Pattaya on
December 30, just in time to warm up the audience for the many other New
Year’s Eve celebrations the following night.
After more than 30 years on stage, The Cliffters are more popular than ever.
Since the very catchy music from the sixties, from which The Cliffters gain
most of their repertoire, has had a gigantic renaissance throughout the
world, the group’s popularity is now universal.
Pattaya citizens are very lucky to have this popular group perform in our
city. At their come back concert in 1987 at Tivoli Park, thousands of “old”
fans showed up - and, thanks the resurgence of 60s music, many more young
people also attended. Now the group has reached the top of its career with
more than 150 (!) concerts a year. Their demand is so great, they are booked
for more than a year in advance.
Johnny Reiman, lead vocals and rhythm guitar player, started as early as 10
years of age by playing classical guitar. By 1958 he participated, together
with his former band, at the Nordic King of Rock festival in Oslo. A few
years later he and drummer Jan Petersen founded The Cliffters. After they
published their first record, “How wonderful to know” in 1961, they held the
prominent position as the leading pop group in Denmark for the next few
years, with numerable concerts and TV appearances. All this took place
before the breakthrough of the Beatles, but as early as that time the group
already felt the adulation and hysteria of teenagers. At that time in Europe
there were only three groups within the same style; The Shadow, The
Spotnicks, and The Cliffters.
The Cliffters were not only famous in Europe at that time, but were
published all over the world, and had a large following in Japan and the Far
East.
In 1978 the popularity of The Cliffters reached another of its peaks, when
they performed a concert in Copenhagen with Bill Haley - the inventor of
Rock’n Roll - and his Comets. They also made many concerts together with top
international stars like Pat Boone, Frankie Vaughan, and Cliff Richards.
The band leader, Johnny Reimar ranks among the world’s most popular artists,
with record sales of over 1 million crowns and with a permanent TV program
which is broadcast every Saturday.
All lovers of 60s music should not miss this great opportunity to see some
real professionals. Reservations should be made in advance since the Moon
River Pub will be crowded.
