Pattaya spokeswoman Yuwathida Jeerapat (seated

year.
Thanachot Anuwan
Pattaya Hospital saw more than 36,000 patients in its first eight
months of operation, even through the hospital had yet to open fully in
2013.
In a press conference called to review projects begun by city hall last
year, Pattaya spokeswoman Yuwathida Jeerapat said the Soi Buakaow facility
took 36,579 cases.
Diseases related to the respiratory system were the most-common ailment
treated with 6,320 cases. Circulatory-system cases totaled 6,026,
digestive-system cases amounted to 5,595 and endocrine-system cases totaled
4,377, she said.
More than two years late and 23 million baht over budget, Pattaya Hospital
only fully partially opened in April and all its 86 beds only became
available this month.
Yuwathida said the city’s health-care system was supplemented by the
“Doctors at Home” project, which sends medical personnel into neighborhoods
to treat patients in their homes.
The most-common problems found were high blood pressure, diabetes, acute
nasopharyngitis, and dental problems. In all, 18,243 people saw doctors at
home, just missing the city’s target of 20,000 patients.
The spokeswoman continued to rattle off a list of accomplishments by Mayor
Itthiphol Kunplome, not all of which the public has viewed positively. Among
them was the expenditure of 2.7 million baht to cut down trees, narrow
sidewalks and widen Beach Road.
She said the city’s plans for 2014 include all the usual events, including
the PTT Open, Chinese New Year Festival, Pattaya International Music
Festival, Pattaya Marathon, Vegetarian Festival, Kings Cup Jet-Ski
Competition and Songkran water throwing.
