Pattaya police raided bungalows used by Pattaya speedboat drivers,
arresting eight for drug use.
Police chief Col. Supathee Bungkhrong led the Aug. 30 operation at Bali Hai
Pier. Eight boat captains tested positive for use of marijuana and
methamphetamines.
One illegal Cambodian national also was found and charged with immigration
violations.
Supathee said the raid was organized in order to bolster safety of tourist
boats. Last year a Koh Larn ferry capsized and sunk and its driver was
determined to be high on meth during the accident.
