Pattaya Police make another
sweep in what is turning out to be a never ending battle to keep underage
kids off the streets late at night.
Last month, in preparation for the criticism he is bound
to receive over the recent spate of incidents in Pattaya involving the
sexual abuse of children, Pol Lt-Col Piya Suraprasert ordered the police
officers under his command to sweep the city for child prostitutes and to
examine the ID-cards of youths under 18 found to be out late at night.
Although bored with the repetitiveness of it all, the trusty force swept out
with lights flashing and sirens blaring, concentrating initially on 10 dens
in the latest hub of sex-scene hot-spots, Thepprasit Road, near Jomtien.
Only four spots were open for inspection, the others having battened down
the hatches at the first sign of the invading bobbies. Nevertheless, the
20-strong task force did manage to make 16 arrests of underage girls and
their mama sans.
Not content, Pol Lt-Col Piya Suraprasert went personally to look over the
boys working at gay bars in Sois Pattayaland 1 and 2 but, possibly to his
disappointment, found none below the age of 18. Another group of officers
checked the bars along Beach Road and arrested 6 under 18 boys, most of whom
were sniffing glue.
Pol Lt-Col Piya Suraprasert swore to continue his sweep until Pattaya was
cleansed of child prostitution.
